Community Operations Manager

About the role:

Permanent full-time, on-site in Wellington, NZ – 32 hours per week – $90,000 – $110,000  based on experience. International applicants are welcome to apply, but must keep in mind the visa requirements for immigration.

We’re seeking a Community Operations Manager to oversee and optimise our community engagement initiatives. This role combines strategic planning, organising, and hands-on execution to build and maintain thriving online and offline communities. This is a growth role where you can make these processes your own and work alongside a passionate team who are excited to try new things.

What You’ll Actually Do: You’ll juggle spontaneous community moments with carefully planned initiatives—and somehow make it all look effortless while serving as the bridge between our incredible player community and our development team. You’ll be the voice, the energy, and sometimes the gentle nudge that keeps our community thriving.

Perfect For: Someone who gets genuinely energised by bringing people together and serves as an organisational maestro – you know what excites people and have the planning know-how to ensure our community team delivers for our players, whether it’s fun events or necessary information.

What you'll do in this role:

  • Coordinate community initiatives and campaigns in line with our studio and project goals, including planning and executing campaigns around game launches, updates, and seasonal events.
  • Create and maintain operational processes for community management workflows, including managing community guidelines and moderating discussions to maintain positive, inclusive environments.
  • Build and nurture thriving communities across Discord, Reddit, social media, and in-game channels while analyzing community metrics to understand what resonates with our players.
  • Serve as the voice of our players within the company – champion their feedback and ideas and work closely with game designers and developers to communicate player needs and handle player concerns with empathy.
  • Transform complex game updates into clear, engaging communications and collaborate with marketing teams to create authentic, community-driven content.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including marketing, project teams, production, and customer support to ensure alignment and mutual support across all departments.
  • Work alongside the marketing team to prepare the annual budget, track expenses, and share updates with the wider studio on a regular basis.
  • From time to time, hosting live streams, AMAs, and community events that bring players together while working with influencers and content creators to expand our reach.
  • Assist with managing external contractor relationships including artists, videographers, and press agencies.
  • Stay ahead of gaming trends and bring fresh ideas to the table while mentoring junior community team members and sharing your expertise.
  • Partner with customer support to ensure seamless player experiences and find creative solutions to challenges.
  • Prepare clear creative briefs with campaign goals, outlining how you’ll measure success, so everyone’s on the same page and the creative work hits the mark for our communities.

The skills and experience we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of professional game or related industry experience within community management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
  • Experience with community management tools and social media platforms including Discord, Twitch, Reddit, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, Steam, Apple Arcade, and Google platforms.
  • Adaptability and project management skills in a collaborative environment. We’re an indie studio with dynamic workflows, so you’ll need to be flexible, handle multiple initiatives simultaneously, and work comfortably with other disciplines.
