Last month, we were thrilled to release our te reo Māori translation of Mini Motorways to the world, done by the wonderful team at Kūwaha Ltd. We were overwhelmed (and very flattered!) by the interest that this update received, and getting to share our experiences of working with the Kūwaha team and what it means to help showcase indigenous languages in games has been an incredibly rewarding experience. We thought you might enjoy a roundup of some of the developer and translator interviews that have taken place in both New Zealand media and worldwide.
- Our Head of Art, Shalee Fitzsimmons, contributed to this piece in Te Ao News.
- Several of our development team answered questions in this piece on GamesNight.
- Blackguard Media spoke to our Senior Community Manager, Casey, as well as Kristin Smith, Director of Kūwaha and translator of Mini Motorways.
- Shalee also spoke to Waatea Digital about our studio’s tikanga initiatives and her incredible work there.
- Yeah Nah Gaming covered the announcement with the gorgeous alternate artwork of our launch art.
And speaking of that launch art, we’d love to highlight the incredible work done by the artist we commissioned for this piece, Huriana Kopeke-Te Aho. Their work can be found on Instagram as well as their colouring book, Te Ao Mārama. As a design-forward studio, finding an artistic partner whose style, colours, and values aligned with our own was so important, and Huriana was a natural choice.
Thousands of you have already enjoyed the te reo translation, and we’ll see you next Wiki o Te Reo Māori!
